Biography

Mathilde Fievez joins the Breakthrough Energy Innovator Fellows program from Beyond Silicon in Tempe, Arizona. As a Senior Development Engineer, she leads the advancement of next-generation tandem solar cells. Mathilde brings a decade of photovoltaic R&D experience across Australia, France, the United States, and Singapore, with expertise spanning process optimization, scalable manufacturing, and materials science.

TheOur sun is the most abundant source of energy, yet today’s solar panels capture only a fraction of its potential. Beyond Silicon’s approach combines two proven solar technologies to harness 30% more sunlight and convert it into electricity at low cost. During her doctoral research, Mathilde pioneered a scalable printing method to deposit perovskite semiconductors on diverse substrates, demonstrating their promise for large-area manufacturing. The Fellows program will accelerate Beyond Silicon’s pilot manufacturing line and the creation of its first market-ready modules for solar manufacturers.

Mathilde has been driven by curiosity and environmental stewardship since childhood, when she launched a “carbon club” in middle school to promote recycling at home. She holds a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from Chimie ParisTech and a joint Doctoral Degree from Grenoble Alpes University and Nanyang Technological University.
