M2X
Company Description

Founded by Breakthrough Energy Ventures in 2020, and backed by BEV, Conifer Infrastructure Partners, ENI Next, SCG, and Autodesk Foundation, M2X Energy has developed a modular, mobile gas-to-liquids system that converts stranded, flared, or landfill methane into low-carbon methanol or renewable natural gas.
Focused on decarbonizing the hard-to-abate marine shipping industry, M2X replaces economies of scale with economies of mass manufacturing—delivering rapidly deployable, capital efficient technology built for real-world conditions and immediate impact.
Since 2023, M2X has deployed multiple successful field pilots, demonstrating the ability to drive up, connect, and operate within a day—standing in sharp contrast to large-scale chemical production requiring years to permit, build, and deploy. In 2024, M2X established a 100,000 sq ft manufacturing facility, supporting their first revenue-generating commercial projects set to launch in 2025 with low-carbon methanol as the first product. Rapid manufacturing scale-up and additional commercial deployments are planned to begin in 2026.
