Frosts are responsible for more crop losses than any other climate-related hazard, on average, and also limit growing seasons and crop production. Existing plant warming technologies to protect plants from frost require high capital and labor which limits their use to high value perennial crops and ignores the cause of frost itself.

To address challenges faced by growers, Advanced Agriscience is developing microbial-based technologies that directly combat the root cause of frost with molecular precision. These are shelf-stable products that may be preventatively sprayed on crops or applied on seeds, after which microbes colonize plant tissue to autonomously protect against frost.

This technology offers a cost-effective and sustainable solution that can be easily used on a variety of crop types, significantly reducing growers’ costs, losses, and labor. By enabling protection on annual crops, like wheat and soybeans, we can unlock new growing regions, extend growing seasons, and enhance global crop production to meet growing demand.
