Trey selects and develops projects for Catalyst using his background in climate technology investing and blended finance. He has focused on the challenge of scaling up climate solutions for over a decade.
Before joining Breakthrough Energy, Trey was the founder of an advisory firm that adapted an overlooked source of catalytic capital to climate projects. His firm convened governments, multinational corporations, and technology companies for climate technology transfer in countries including Malaysia, South Africa, Colombia, and Canada.
Earlier in his career, Trey was a Senior Director in GE's corporate venture capital group. For the group's $300MM fund, he made investments in 10 energy technology companies, managed the group's overall portfolio of 40+ investments, and supported six portfolio companies as a board observer. In another role at GE, he contributed to the underwriting of large energy project investments and managed investments in early utility-scale solar PV and wind projects. Before that, he was a member of the management team of a startup water technology company and an environmental policy analyst.
Trey holds a BA in Chemistry and Environmental Studies from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Yale School of Management. He lives in the Boston area and enjoys bringing his wife and two (sometimes willing) children on hikes in northern New England.
