Daniel Gerding

Director, Project Finance, BE Catalyst

Daniel joined Breakthrough Energy in February 2022 as Director, Project Finance for the new Catalyst program. In this capacity, Daniel is focused on driving project-level investments in hydrogen, long-duration energy storage, sustainable aviation fuels, and direct air capture to reduce the green premium associated with these emerging technologies, thereby reducing development risk, and catalyzing private market investment to bring them to scale.

Prior to joining Breakthrough Energy, Daniel was at FIH Partners, where he advised large pension and infrastructure funds on investment in utility-scale, greenfield renewable energy projects. He joined FIH after five years at Barclays focused primarily on renewable energy M&A and project finance, in addition to leading growth equity capital raising for companies in the broader sustainability sector (e.g., AgTech). He started his career as a consultant for Deloitte in San Francisco.

Daniel holds an MBA and MS (Sustainable Systems) from the University of Michigan and a BA from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Originally from Colorado, Daniel currently lives in New York City with his partner Crystal and their two cats, Miku and Mochi.
