Ben Rouillé d’Orfeuil
Ben joined Breakthrough Energy (BE) in July 2020 as a data scientist. His work focuses on developing, together with researchers and software engineers of BE Sciences, a simulation platform that can be used by a broad research community to run scenarios in the US electric grid and better understand the path to a clean energy generation.
Prior to working on the high-resolution open source grid model, Ben spent about a decade in Academia where he carried out research in the field of High Energy Astrophysics and Observational Cosmology. He started his scientific career studying ultrahigh energy cosmic rays, focusing on their extragalactic and Galactic propagation as well as the astrophysical sources in the local Universe capable of their acceleration. He then studied the Universe as a whole, its geometry, its energy content and its evolution over the course of time using the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation.
Ben holds a Ph.D in Physics from University of Paris and then joined several research institutions in France and in the US as a postdoctoral researcher. During his free time, Ben explores with his wife Jenny and son Lucas the various playgrounds that Seattle and its surroundings have to offer. In addition, Ben makes sure that Lucas learns and speaks French.
