Spark e-Fuels

Company Description

Synthetic Aviation Fuel (e-SAF) offers a promising pathway to reduce aviation emissions. However, current e-SAF production methods face major cost and scalability challenges. Grid-connected systems rely on expensive electricity to produce hydrogen, while off-grid systems require substantial hydrogen storage, adding cost and complexity and limiting competitiveness with fossil-based jet fuel.

Spark tackles these cost and scalability challenges with their demand-responsive system, which enables e-fuel and chemical feedstock production with intermittent, lowest-cost renewable energy, using CO2 as a key input. At the core of this innovation is a syngas (CO and H2) production process with industry-leading CO₂-to-CO conversion rates, resulting in a substantial projected decrease in e-fuel production costs.

Additionally, Spark’s demand-responsive system reduces hydrogen storage needs dramatically compared with conventional technologies, significantly lowering the capital investment. The result is a low-cost, scalable path to e-SAF production and net-zero aviation.
