Breakthrough Energy Catalyst’s First Global Request for Information on Emerging Climate Technology Projects
On September 20th, Catalyst launched its first Global Request for Information (RFI) to identify projects across four emerging climate technologies that can accelerate our global path to large scale carbon reduction. The Catalyst program is a new initiative working with companies, governments, and philanthropists to invest in and support projects to reduce the green premium and displace carbon-intensive processes and technologies. In the coming months, Catalyst expects to issue a series of Requests for Proposals (RFP) to apply for Catalyst program funding. This RFI will be a component in helping to structure and schedule RFPs. Catalyst expects to award project financing to a select number of qualifying high-impact projects across four focus technology sectors listed below.
Overview and Scope
Breakthrough Energy Catalyst invites submissions from projects across the following four technology sectors:
- Green hydrogen
- Direct air capture
- Sustainable aviation fuel
- Long duration energy storage
Catalyst invites developers or project sponsors to submit project details. The Catalyst program provides project-level financing for the deployment of its target technologies. Of note, Catalyst does not provide company-level funding such as venture capital or corporate growth equity.
Catalyst will use the results of the RFI to inform its understanding of the market for project development activity across the globe and help shape its RFPs. Following the RFI, Catalyst plans to launch at least one RFP by the end of 2021.
Responding to this RFI is not required to participate in an RFP but will inform the process used by Catalyst to prepare the RFPs, as well as the timing of RFPs.
Timing: The RFI will remain open for submissions from 9 AM (US Pacific Time) on September 20, 2021 until 5 PM (US Pacific Time) on October 20, 2021.
How to submit: Please read the BE Catalyst RFI below for overview and instructions and then follow through to the RFI submission portal to submit your project.
Contact: During the RFI window, the Breakthrough Energy Catalyst team will not be holding meetings with parties regarding the RFI concerning eligible projects. If you have any technical questions or issues regarding your submission, please contact us at CatalystRFI2021@breakthroughenergy.org.
Catalyst will not be providing feedback on RFI submissions but appreciates the efforts of submitters to enable us to build out successful RFPs for these technologies.
